Messing about in boats

To quote Ratty in full, ‘Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing — absolutely nothing — half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Simply messing… about in boats — or with boats.  In or out of ’em, it doesn’t matter.  Nothing seems really to matter, that’s the charm of it.  Whether you get away, or whether you don’t; whether you arrive at your destination or whether you reach somewhere else, or whether you never get anywhere at all, you’re always busy, and you never do anything in particular; and when you’ve done it there’s always something else to do, and you can do it if you like, but you’d much better not’.

In my case, this postcard was the result of just messing about with photo editing software and apps.  Just passing time, nothing special in mind other than messing about with a photograph taken a few years ago on a fairly dull March morning at Esthwaite Water, near Hawkshead in the Lake District.

      1. My first husband and used to go every year when the girls were young. We eventually bought a little cruiser and went most weekend. There is something about the water and the peace which makes for a great holiday.

  1. Great photo and postcard 🙂
Your messing around with photo editing has produced a great image with a lovely atmosphere. With the suggestion the day is just beginning to warm up it holds promise of the day ahead.
By chance my latest post has an image that I have messed around with. I have turned an office block into a space station or sky lab or something! It was definitely one of those ‘Oh I’ll just try this…’ and there it was!

    1. Thanks Mr C. I thought about posting the original for comparison but decided against it. I have learnt to take the photo even if conditions aren’t perfect. You can usually do something with (hopefully improve it) it later.

      1. You are absolutely right. Get the shot and if necessary a bit of an edit can often fix things. I try to post most of my images straight from camera with only minor tweaking rather than lots of editing but I’m not adverse to taking out a cable that spoils a skyline 🙂
Hope you are having a great Sunday.
Best wishes from a soggy Sheffield.
